Emmanuel Emasealu's The Gardeners is not necessarily a protest staged by disgruntled and dissatisfied farmers over a breach of contract, in their employer's vineyard. It is rather a multi-thematic construct showcasing brute power-play, crude cult display, despair and passion; all in a dramatic conflux on stage canvas... While the mix is rupturing systematically towards a suspected and damnable crescendo, a feminist theoretic betrays her bottled-up romance-craze, and plunges into spasms of passion-propelled, love-drunk rhetoric-in a frenetic abandon-towards the satisfaction of her id... The linguistic finesse apportioned to the well-created characters and the themes under discourse, is befittingly and beautifully succinct.
