Description

SUMMARY An anti-climactic tragicomedy in two acts. There is harmony until things begin to fall apart following the stranger's entry. A community that has remained peaceable and quiet with its monotony of events suddenly becomes excitable consequent upon the entrance of the stranger. Kaka's oracle has forewarned the king of a stranger who will come and whose influence will destroy the land, tear affinities, and set brother against brother. The king, against advice, receives the stranger and observes that he is dovine, much too quiet to hurt even a fly. As long as the sky rises daily and sets at dusk, there will always be strangers. This one, I think, is benevolent. May his presence bring forth plenitude! Says the king who is already taken in with the stranger. True to the king's observation, the stranger comes with the eye of a seer. He tells the king, in a kind of equivocation, that there is so much wealth in his land. The king cannot reconcile this with the poverty and drought around him. The wealth hidden in the land can be anywhere, says the stranger, in the house, farms or stream. He leaves to return and show the king the site of great wealth. Long before the return of the stranger, everyone knows that a big trouble is brewing in Kogbe. Things can never be the same again.
