Description

"Children of the Slums" is an intriguing play on dirty politicking, characterized by campaign of calumny, bitterness, hate, social inequality and high level of corruption at the local government administration level. The extravagant Local government chairman, High Chief Jabor, who lords over members of his cabinet, is a hypocrite, who does not have the interest of the people at heart - He does not have the political will to deliver the dividends of democracy to the rural dwellers. Consequently, there is lack of social amenities such as, electricity, potable water, good road network, etc. The people are seriously impoverished and hunger is rife in the local communities; occasioned by the high-handedness of High Chief Jabor. The wife of the executive State Governor desires to complement the efforts of her husband in emancipating the people from the claws of poverty - through her pet-project: "The Children Manna Foundation". However, her efforts are thwarted by Ms. Tina - the school teacher and counselor hired to teach the pupils; as she aids the members of the opposition party, who are bent on sabotaging the efforts of the incumbent government. Some pupils are kidnaped, but the long arm of the law eventually catches up with the culprits. "Children of the Slums" is a political satire, which seeks to correct the evils perpetrated by corrupt politicians. It is therefore a tool for Social Reformation.
