With superb innovative craftsmanship that points to the infinite possibilities of art, Sweeping Rain dramatizes the tragic woes of failed leadership which breeds poverty and suffocates hope. The hero of the play captures the predicament of his society thus: "For as long as a nation allows itself to be ruled by morally debauched and intellectually impoverished people, that nation will harvest unceasing tempests and wallow in grinding penury. That is our fate. Our country is in crises, our aspirations crippled, our people in the lethal clutches of denigrating poverty, and our children not sure of sunshine tomorrow because...those who control the affairs of our nation are afflicted with abject moral and intellectual poverty.... Things must change and the time is now". But to achieve this, the masses who are paradoxically agents of corruption as well as its worst victims must change, become patriotic, in order to engender responsible leadership and social transformation.
