Description
Peter, a poor fisherman, intends to make his son, Anselem, start life on the right footing. His poverty is seen by the natives and his immediate family as a curse inherited from his ancestors. He believes in his dream of bringing up a son, who will turn the hands of time and reverse the supposed curse. Angela, Anselem's mother, disinterested in Peter's dream and philosophy of faith seeks to teach her son a fast way of life. Anselem becomes wayward and turns a robber. His father, believing in his faith soon becomes rich and wealth through a white man, Terrace Deever, who came to Africa in search of swallows for his wife. Anselem, suddenly realizing being spoilt by his beloved mother, attempts to reconcile with his rich father. But he is killed trying to escape from prison. Before his death, Peter soon bequeaths all his wealth to his only daughter from a different woman.
