Description
About the Play The Play is about women's subtle agitation for political space. The desire of the women wing of the United People's Liberation Party to be equal players in the governance of the country rather than be the "icing on the political cake" builds up to the point where a woman, Professor Nona Odaro, actually emerges as the party's presidential candidate. Hope coming from the academic world, often accused of being heavy on theories indicates that the era of translating words and wishes into action is here. More Than Dancing is a warning to African male chauvinists who have convinced themselves over the years that women simply do not have what it takes to move to and occupy the front seat. It is also a call on women to shed defeatist thoughts and embrace the fact that their being co participants in decision-making processes is a possibility whose time has come. Skeptics may refer to the fore-mothers: Amina of Zaria, Moremi of Ife, Tinubu of Lagos, Inikpi of Idah, Kambasa of Bonny, Funmilayo of Abeokuta, Idia of Benin for the love of theirsocieties, they dared to do what was not considered feminine.
