Description
Bleeding Scars is a symbolic illustration of the theme of senselessness in trying to solve problems or disagreements through force. The play resounds with the warning that "war or violence in whatever form, is not a worthy option in solving human conflicts... War always leaves a wound which may heal with time but the scar will ever remain and sometimes, keep bleeding". The play is an imaginative recreation of the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970). The play takes us through the devastating effects of war on a family caught on the wrong sides of the conflict. Though they prosper temporarily from the spoils of war, the spoils later turn into ashes in their mouths long after the war. The supreme message of the play is that in a time of war, many things happen whose consequences ricochet far into the future long after such war has ended, thus putting a lie to the popular saying that "all is fair in war". From the gory events that accompany today's skirmishes, uprisings and wars, it is clear that nothing is fair in war of any kind. The play reinforces this fact through contemporary dramatic re-enactments.
