Description
This novel underscores the fundamental dilemma arising from differences in cultural practices engendered over the years, even between man and wife. Vou, for instance, finds herself caught in a marriage from which she cannot escape, and is compelled to tolerate Onite, the iguana- a popular delicacy in north- which turns out to be a sacred god amongst her in-laws, the people of Ndoni. The author tells a story that straddles northern ad southern Nigeria in a bind of brotherhood, a compulsion to live as one people, in spite of differences in language and culture. She writes with a cinematic consciousness that lends her narrative the episodic interface that could jolly well qualify her script for adaptation to the movie screen.
