Akuabata is the story of a god-cum-lover who is spurned and neglected by his spouse and people; it is also an enactment of the clash between public duty and personal love, with tragic consequences. But beyond the Anyadoro family, Akuabata underlines what fate may befall any community that strays from its moorings to follow foreign ways it is not willing to fully embrace.
