Description
The Village Lamb decries the undying presence of ritual practices prevalent in Nigeria despite the seeming adherence to Christianity and rising Pentecostalism. It shows the protagonist, Amadi, submit to the wily, title-crazy elders who manipulate his learning, exposure and good conscience to massage his ego to their selfish end. Amadi is the choice of the chief priest who believes that an educated and promising young man is the best choice for the year's sacrifice. "It makes very interesting reading. The story is ably sustained and well situated culturally through the use of suspense and proverbs and cultural emblems... It is reminiscent of Wole Soyinka's The Strong Breed."
