Description
A Question of Marriage is a first of its kind in literature in English written by the Hausa-Fulani of northern Nigeria. It catalogues all abuses of the pretense of parental background that women are forced to suffer when the question of their marriages comes up. People will rather call Safiya a prostitute just because school of nursing students happen to rent part of the house she occupies with her mother. Because both women have no husbands, the society paints a bad picture of them. No one is willing to find out that Safiya is the victim of an unhappy divorce or that her father is arrested for no just cause and sent to prison, leaving his wife in limbo.
