Another Weekend, Gone! dramatizes one of Nigeria's perennial post-colonial crises which is manifested in political intolerance. Recreated as a weekend occurrence, the play mirrors the brutal muffling of dissenting voices in a supposedly democratic dispensation. Thus, it is to the playwright's credit that he presents a whole era and aura of political repression in such a short span of life. Beyond the tragic resonance of political brutality, Another Weekend, Gone! also adumbrates gender concerns and interrogates certain nuptial assumptions which negate the women. This play which is Anyanwu's third attempt at dramaturgy is a remarkable improvement in craft, linguistic felicity and thematic thrust.
