Description

I think highly of this play. In it the sociology and anthropology of dramaturgic and theatrical practice have been amply demonstrated with virtuosity and vision. This is an emerging playwright with a significant voice worthy of attention. James Tar Tsaaior, Professor, author of "I Am Chibok, South Africa. The play Bitter Sweet revolves on the woes of matrimony. This thematic thrust is topical and relevant now than ever before following series of cases of physical abuses and battering of women by their husbands in contemporary Nigeria and other parts of the globe with some of the incidents resulting in deaths. Like the playwright posits, marriage has its sweet and bitter pills which must be swallowed by couples. However and most importantly, each must help the other to get over his or her flaws to make it work. I must admit that the playwright has effectively utilized dramatic techniques to create a graphic picture of most marriages in Nigeria and what marriage ought to be. No doubt, this playwright has potentials to go places in the area of dramaturgy given her creative prowess and I encourage all couples and intending couples to read or watch this piece as the lessons are enormous.
