ABOUT THE PLAY Mangrove in the Desert depicts the immediate situations before and after the famous Kaiama declaration. So, when you talk about resources control, we must consider certain basic issues. Nigeria, we all say is a Federal Republic, but we operate a unitary system. Mangrove in the Desert x-rays the Niger Delta crisis where the Ijaw people and their neighbors have been denied their natural rights to ownership and control of their land and resources through the instrumentality of undemocratic legislations. The play portrays these actions in a dramatic experience replete with songs and dances.
