Description
In 1933, the Native Authority in Oro-Ago Kingdom, (now in Kwara State of Nigeria Local Government Area) requested each adult woman in Oro-Ago to sell two big "gari" from all women in the land to pay tax. Then the issue was "What shall women in Oro of who will convey the displeasure of the District Officer." This play is woven around the courage of a bold woman Oshabunmi Ogo who provided an acceptable explanation against the introduction of payment of tax by women. She became the pioneer of their achievement. Because of the historical facts in the nomenclature of the traditional chiefs in Oro/Matriarch (Oro) presented in the play, the play does not represent the customs and traditions of Oro-Ago people, even with the dramatic scenes that reveal Yoruba proverbs, customs and traditions of Oro-Ago people.
