Description
Teeth Set on Edge '...one grand roller coaster of a courtroom drama' In this intriguing play, a school teacher is arrested and arraigned for Sedition. Engineered by the local Mayor merely as a ruse to rattle the man and stifle a budding love affair between him and the Mayor's daughter, the matter is viewed generally as a typical example of the oppression endlessly visited on the masses by the ruling elite and it snowballs into a big face-off. This sets the stage for a courtroom drama in which two brilliant lawyers — one, an old, experienced war-horse; the other, a relatively young, fiery idealist — lock horns in a razor-sharp, unforgettable battle of wits. As it turns out, at stake is not only the fate of one man but the emancipation of black people everywhere. Finally, the sweet tang of victory soon turns sour for the Prosecution as the ruling — ostensibly in its favour — turns out a pyrrhic victory. Then, rather than waning the affair of the lovebirds blossoms to the chagrin of the Mayor as a surprise hard knock for the teacher is soon followed by a new opportunity.
