When myths are employed in drama, they are not meant to plunder the past for entertainment. Rather, they are remembrances of the relics of the past for education. On this particular occasion, we stand on the solid rock of the spirit of the Yoruba woman who, for millions of years, has been keenly alive both to her cultural responsibilities, as wife and mother, and to her gender as an equal partner to man in the business of life. Belly Bellows is Akinwumi Orojide-Isola's attempt at recreating the popular Yoruba Oya myth with a metaphor that gives a deeper understanding of individuals and groups in situations of conflict and cooperation.
