Yungba-Yungba and the Dance Contest by Femi Osofisan is a political allegory set in a traditional African village where an annual dance contest, meant to choose a new priestess, has been corrupted by the current leader, Iyeneri, who refuses to step down. Three young women—Ayoka, Dunbarin, and Laboopo—form the group Yungba-Yungba to challenge her authority, restore fairness, and show that unity can overcome tyranny. The play blends music, dance, and Yoruba culture to deliver a powerful message about corruption, democracy, and resistance.
